KV AFS Amla Betul was established in 1953 as ‘Narendra Higher Secondary School’ at Tandon Camp, Amla, under the Air Force Station Amla.The school received its first official recognition from the MP Board in 1956; it offered education up to Class 12 in the Science and Commerce streams and subsequently received permanent recognition in 1965.On May 1, 1964, it was inducted as a Central School (now known as Kendriya Vidyalaya).It was one of the initial 20 regimental schools established in 1963–64 to cater to the educational needs of the children of defense personnel. A 3-acre plot was originally allocated at the Tandon Camp, Amla. The school’s current building is located within the Air Force Station Amla, approximately 3 km from Amla Railway Station and 2 km from the old campus at Tandon Camp.The new building was inaugurated on February 17, 1979, by Air Vice Marshal A. Viswanathan (PVSM, AVSM).The Science and Humanities streams for Class 11 were introduced in 1976, followed by the Commerce stream in 1997. The first batch of Class 12 Science and Humanities students appeared for the CBSE board examinations in 1977, while the first batch of Class 12 Commerce students appeared in 1998.Currently, KV AFS Amla is a three-section school offering classes from Grade 1 to 12, with Science, Commerce, and Humanities streams, and a student body exceeding 1,360. In 2023, it was upgraded to a PM SHRI KV under the first phase of the PM SHRI scheme. Under this initiative, the school has transitioned from traditional blackboard-equipped classrooms to innovative learning spaces; facilities now include interactive panels in classrooms, as well as AV rooms, computer labs, physics labs, and ATL labs. A vocational training laboratory for skill development was established in the school in 2026 under the PM SHRI scheme.
